This course is designed for learners who are responsible for the daily running of a before and after school care and/or holiday program. Students will learn about planning, implementing and managing programs and will have the responsibility of supervising volunteers and/or other staff members.
In order to work in before and after school care and holiday programs, one is required to study and complete this qualification. You do not need to have a Certificate IV to start this course.
This Diploma is a total of 16 months in duration (split into 4 semesters of 4 months each) however it is possible to complete the course earlier if you so wish. VET Fee Help is available to eligible students who must either hold a Year 12 certificate or complete core skills testing in literacy and numeracy at exit level 3. This must be provided upon application.
The course is available online. There will be a combination of theory, research projects and work based practical tasks and students are expected to work on their assignments at least three days per week. A minimum of two assignments per month is necessary to complete the course on time. As part of the course all students must carry out work placement at a before and after hours school care or holiday program centre for a minimum of 350 hours.
Students are required to use Moodle, our online learning system to access learning resources, lessons, assignment lists and to submit their work. Students are supplied with three textbooks to assist with resourcing information for their assignments. Assessments will be related to the work place and include practical work based exercises, short and long answer questions and written assignments. Students will also be observed at their work placement by KAL Training.
All students must have a laptop or desktop computer and access to the internet for the full duration of the course.
